Blue Hills Manuka honey is sold as 400+, 250+, 100+, and 30+ referring to the milligrams of Methylglyoxal per kilogram of honey.
All Blue Hills honeys are "cold extracted", ensuring all of the natural components of the honey are retained.
Manuka honey comes from Tasmania as well as New Zealand and we have the best of the Tasmanian Manuka honey.
Manuka honey is produced by bees collecting nectar from the Manuka plant (aka tea tree) - Leptospermum scoparium - which grows well in Tasmania
Manuka has been known for a long time as having antibacterial activity and a few years ago this was confirmed by laboratory research. Methylglyoxal (MGO) has been found to be the major antibacterial component of Manuka honey.
In order to confirm you are getting what you pay for, Blue Hills tests their Manuka before packing and shows the MGO level on the jars.
